The main purpose of this work is to provide a cartographic representation of the process of Islamization of the vast area of “Kafir” cultures and Indo-European languages here styled “Peristan”. Since the latter have recently become the subject of much misrepresentation and the target of mass tourism, it is necessary to emphasizes that the matters here discussed strictly concern only the internal relations between the members of the group.
The paper compares this representation with conceptions and practices among the present-day Kalasha of Chitral.
